My Assignment to Japan
This is a picture of me in Japan. Spring in Japan is wet - Pat Narup and I spent the day periodically singing, "Singing in the Rain." We took many tours together before she left; this continues to be one of my favorite day trips in spite of the rain. Here I am on the pathway to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura; it is considered the spiritual heart of Kamakura. Yoritomo constructed this cherry tree lined pathway in the 1190's so that his oldest son's first visit to the family shrine could be accomplished in style with an elaborate procession. Yoritomo dedicated the shrine to Hachiman, the Shinto god of war who served as the clan deity family.
