![]() | The Great Buddha of Kamakura, one of Japan's most famous attractions. Thirty-seven feet high and weighing 93 tons, Kamakura's Buddha is the second largest bronze image in Japan. Cast in 1252, it was once housed in a wooden building; however, a tidal wave destroyed the building and this Daibutsu (Buddha) has sat in the elements since that time. It is hollow and visitors are allowed inside for about $2.00. |
